Research

The Division of Cardiology is deeply committed to ongoing research, both basic and clinical. There are multiple ongoing research programs covering all aspects of cardiovascular diseases, ranging from the molecular aspects of myocardial reperfusion injury, inflammation and post-ischemic remodeling, to clinical trials of new cardiovascular drugs. The Cardiology Faculty is involved in several multicenter trials involving coronary intervention, gene therapy, echocardiography, myocardial infarction, and heart failure, and maintains close interdisciplinary ties with cardiothoracic surgery, physiology, pharmacology, and the UT school of Biomedical Engineering.
