Cardiology Conferences
Monday
Core Curriculum Conference
4:00-5:00 pm, Cardiac Cath Lab Conference Room, University Hospital
Provides extensive didactic instruction in multiple aspects of cardiovascular
disease including: 1) cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and
pathology; 2) congenital and acquired cardiovascular disorders, emphasizing
etiology, pathophysiology, natural history, and management principals; 3)
cardiovascular risk factors and their modifications; and 4) cardiovascular
testing including hemodynamics, electrocardiography, echocardiography, nuclear
cardiology, cardiac catheterization, and electrophysiology. This conference
addresses basic science topics such as physics of ultrasound, cell membrane
receptors, and pharmacology.
Interventional Cardiology Journal Club
7:00-8:00 am, Cardiac Cath Lab Conference Room, University Hospital
Run by the Interventional Cardiology Faculty and Fellows, this conference presents a forum for the critical review and discussion of literature pertaining to the practice of interventional cardiology.
Fellows ECG Conference
12:00-1:00 pm, Cardiac Cath Lab Conference Room, University Hospital
In this conference, fellows present interesting ECG's, stress tests, and electrophysiology case
presentations encountered at the University and VA hospitals.
Non-Invasive Cardiology Conference
4:00-5:00 pm, Cardiac Cath Lab Conference Room, University Hospital
Provides a forum for review of multiple areas in non-invasive cardiac
diagnosis. Didactic lectures and relevant clinical studies are reviewed with
the fellows by the faculty member assigned to run the conference and salient
points are highlighted.
Auscultation Conference
4:00-5:00 pm, Cardiac Cath Lab Conference Room, University Hospital
Held once a month. In this conference, patient volunteers with interesting
auscultatory findings are recruited to participate. Using a multiple headed
stethophone system, all fellows, residents, and students in attendance can
listen simultaneously to the patient along with the faculty.
Invasive Conference
7:00-8:00 am, Cardiac Cath Lab Conference Room, University Hospital
Cardiology fellows present interesting hemodynamic cases, followed by
interactive discussion with the faculty.
Combined Cardiology/Cardiac Surgery Clinical Case Conference
(Cardiac Cath Conference)
4:00-5:00 pm, Room 209L, University
This conference provides a forum for discussion of the optimal medical and
surgical management of patients with a wide variety of cardiovascular
disorders. Fellows routinely prepare and present interesting cases at this
conference after receiving input from supervising faculty. In the course of
case presentation and discussion, fellows receive instruction in the optimal
use of invasive and noninvasive testing in the clinical situation of interest,
critical interpretation of hemodynamic and angiographic data, and algorithms
for patient management. There is open discussion with faculty from the
Division of Thoracic Surgery regarding patient management, surgical
indication, operative risk, and expected outcomes.
Fellows Echo/Nuclear Conference
12:30-1:30 pm, Cardiac Cath Lab Conference Room, University Hospital
This fast-paced conference presents a variety of interesting echocardiographic cases and unusual case presentations encountered at the University and VA hospitals. Once per month the Nuclear Correlation Conference is held with the Division of Nuclear Medicine.
Research Conference/Journal Club
4:00-5:00 pm, Cardiac Cath Lab Conference Room, University Hospital
Research Conference provides a forum for the presentation and discussion of
past and ongoing research projects in cardiology and related disciplines.
Fellows are provided with latest updates in areas of basic science and
epidemiology and have the opportunity to present research results publicly
with critical review.
CTA Conference
12:30-1:30 pm, Cardiac Cath Lab Conference Room, University Hospital
This conference is used to present interesting CT/MRI cases and clinical correlations with other imaging modalities. Cases are presented as unknowns and the emphasis is on real-time image manipulation and interpretation. It is led by clinical faculty, but fellows are responsible for teaching, image acquisition and manipulation, and discussion.
